As a mystery shopper, I have the lucky job of checking out local restaurants and retail establishments. It really is fun and somewhat adventurous to head into a restaurant not just to eat a meal but to observe the quality of the service and menu offerings.

We have checked out several locations of The Hickory Tavern and have been delighted with the menu choices. The chicken and steak are delicate and delicious. The salads are huge and flavorful.

The prices are reasonable, around $9 for a salad entree or sandwich, and around $20 for a steak.

Desserts run around $8 for a gigantic serving large enough for two people to have plenty.

Most locations have a nice, pleasant casual atmosphere. One location more closely resembled a bar, with heavy odor from the party the night before, but most locations seem clean and orderly.

There are televisions overhead if one wishes to catch the news or the race. You can tell the server what you want to see on T.V., if you choose.

For two entrees and a dessert, we spent $44 and enjoyed our meal immensley.
