On Sunday, February 25, Chabad of Lake Norman celebrated the grand opening of its new community center located on Bethel Church Road in Cornelius, NC. The event was attended by a diverse group including the center’s founders, donors, regional rabbinical leaders, community members, and many more, marking a significant milestone for the local Jewish community.

Rabbi Chaim Greenberg, who co-directs the center alongside his wife Chaya, expressed his vision during the opening ceremony, describing Chabad of Lake Norman as a beacon of hope and unity. “Chabad of Lake Norman is more than just a synagogue; it’s a lighthouse that reaches out to Jews wherever they are, regardless of their background or religious affiliation,” he said. He highlighted the center’s role in fostering community connection, spiritual growth, and celebration of Jewish life.

Since its inception in 2018, Chabad of Lake Norman has actively served the surrounding towns—Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Troutman, Statesville, and Denver—by offering a range of services and programs. These include Shabbat and holiday services, Hebrew School and summer camps for children, visits to local seniors, and adult educational classes. The new facility will allow for the expansion of services, including Jewish lifecycle events such as Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, and burial arrangements.

The event also featured a keynote address by Rabbi Yossi Groner, the longest-serving rabbi in the Carolinas, who spoke on the importance of Jewish pride. Distinguished community leaders and supporters, including Budd & Leslie Berro, Heath Prior, and Rhoda Miller, shared their insights on Chabad’s vital role in enriching the Jewish life in Lake Norman.

Rabbi Greenberg addressed the challenges faced by the Jewish community, particularly the rise in antisemitism and conflict in Israel, stating, “Since Oct. 7, Jews around the country have responded by doubling down on their faith and heritage.” He emphasized resilience and pride in the face of adversity, heralding the center’s opening as a testament to the community’s strength.

The recent influx of Jewish residents to Lake Norman underscores the need for such a center. The new facility, equipped with a multipurpose hall, a youth room for educational and recreational activities, and plans for further expansion, promises to be a hub for the flourishing Jewish life in the area.
