A big challenge for those living in a Lake Norman waterfront home is choosing which activity to engage in on a daily basis! Whether sailing, fishing, a sunset cruise around the lake or enjoying waterfront dining at the Blue Parrot, Hello Sailor, North Harbor Club or The Landing, time is the only limit. There are more waterfront homes in Mooresville with Cornelius waterfront homes being a close second.

Lake Norman is “NASCAR Country” just 20 miles north of Charlotte. Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina. All the entertainment, great dining you will need. Charlotte is home to the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, the NFL”s Carolina Panthers, Triple-A Baseball- Charlotte Knights, the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, and NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway. The weather around Lake Norman is great! You can enjoy all four seasons without all the ice and snow. A mind climate with all four seasons and spectacular fall colors combined with breathtaking sunsets are truly amazing!

Life on Lake Norman affords unique lifestyles, depending on which side of the lake you choose to make your permanent or seasonal home. Having access to activities you enjoy off the water have to also come into place.  There are diverse waterfront subdivisions and neighborhoods offering country club, golf, and tennis memberships, gated access, boat slips and storage, pools, and various other amenities.

Some of those waterfront communities are The Peninsula with an 18 hole golf course and Yacht Club, The Point in Mooresville, home of Trump National Golf Club, SailView in Denver, with Pool & Tennis Courts overlooking Lake Norman, and Northview Harbour in Sherrills Ford, also with a pool and tennis court.

To The West – “The Quiet Side”

This is often referred to as the quiet side of the lake where things tend to move slower, and neighborhoods are more spread out.  There isn’t a movie theater or a chain coffee shops on every corner – There is a Dunking Donut on Highway 16. Benefits are less traffic and more open space.

Communities included on the west and north side of Lake Norman: Denver, Sherrills Ford/Terrell, Troutman, and Stanley. Your commute to Charlotte will vary by location but most travel via highway 16. The new highway 16 through fare makes trips south to Charlotte and north to Hickory much quicker than I77 on the east side fo the lake.

TO THE EAST – MORE ACTION!

If you desire restaurants and shopping at your fingertips  Cornelius, Huntersville, Mooresville or Davidson might be a better choice! Charlotte commutes access for these areas are by way of I77. The toll lane will be completed Spring of 2019 and it will make the rush hour traffic move much faster. The towns on the east side of Lake Norman have more tightly designed neighborhoods, more businesses, more activities, and events.

Lake Norman is North Carolina’s largest man-made lake. It was created by Duke Energy in 1963 with the damming of Catawba River and building of Cowan’s Ford Dam.

Also known as the “inland sea” with 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 32,475 acres, making it almost as large as the other ten lakes on the Catawba River combined.

You can drive around the entire lake in 2 hours. Although the Lake Norman area is large in size, it’s actually a collection of small towns that surround the lake. Lake Norman is hard to beat because it is one of the few large lakes that is not isolated.  In fact, there are 5 towns bordering Lake Norman and most of the areas have lakeside communities.  Lake Norman is mostly a permanent home area. But there are some second homes and vacation rentals.  On the waterfront, home prices range from $350,000 to $10 million.

Driving to Charlotte, 20 minutes to the south, is a 25-30 minute trip using Interstev77 or NC Highway 16. Charlotte is known as a banking hub and is the nation’s second-largest banking city. Charlotte is also headquarters for many national and international companies.

If you like to travel, Lake Norman is a short commute to Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  The Blue Ridge Mountains and Parkway are a 1.5-hour drive. That is close enough for a daily trip for snow skiing, hiking, sightseeing, or a scenic drive. Some of the world’s best beaches are within a 4-5 hour drive in NC and SC. Myrtle Beach is a very popular beach destination. Historic Charleston SC is 4 hours away.
